In her Boulder, CO practice, Jennifer employs an integrative approach that is best described as wholistic and evidence-based. Elements of Wilderness Therapy, Gestalt, EMDR, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, DBT, and Mindfulness are blended to create very effective forms of treatment. This innovative approach has the power to transform the whole person; mind, body, emotion and spirit. Therapy takes place in the context of a supportive and safe environment.
“I understand that problems often arise out of our efforts to navigate life in the best possible way. I will work with you to uncover your strengths and help you connect with yourself and others in safe, meaningful and fulfilling ways.”
Wilderness Therapy more…
Jennifer has a master’s degree in Transpersonal Counseling Psychology and Wilderness Therapy from Naropa University in Boulder, CO. She has extensive experience working with adolescents, young adults, and families in wilderness settings. Wilderness Therapy involves incorporating the natural world into the therapeutic process. Experiencing therapy in a natural setting can be extremely powerful. Through establishing contact with the natural world people are often able to connect with themselves, and ultimately others, in a more fulfilling way. It is a particularly helpful approach for people who struggle with relationships and self esteem related challenges. Wilderness therapy can happen both in and out of the office. close
EMDR more…
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a highly researched and extremely effective treatment for trauma. Traumatic images, sensations, emotions, and thoughts can get “stuck” in the mind and body. You may continue to feel “as though it happened yesterday” even though time has passed. EMDR works by helping the body and mind process traumatic events, and by transforming the way these images, feelings and thoughts are stored in the mind and body. Jennifer is a trained EMDR therapist. close
Gestalt and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy more…
Gestalt and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy are two different approaches that are both very experiential and body centered. They are based on present moment awareness and client therapist interactions. All forms of trauma are stored in the body and “talk therapy” alone is often not enough. Many people find that despite seeking therapy in the past, they have been unable to overcome trauma related symptoms. You may have difficulty sleeping at night, experience trouble with memories and sense of time, you may be consistently “wound tight” or feel like you are moving through life in a daze. You may have trouble initiating and/or maintaining relationships. Gestalt and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy are both powerfully effective approaches for working with trauma and relationship problems. close
Dialectical Behavior Therapy more…
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a powerful and practical approach that helps individuals work effectively with strong emotions. The inability to regulate emotions can create a wide variety of problems in one’s life including relationship stress, depression, angry outbursts, and impulsivity. People who have difficulty regulating strong emotions often struggle with substance abuse, maintaining relationships, and disordered eating. Jennifer teaches more skillful ways to handle difficult emotions and stressful situations. She teaches skills in the context of a supportive client-therapist relationship that emphasizes personal strengths. Jennifer is a foundationally trained DBT therapist. close
